The job

What actually happened

The Wilkinsons are in their sixties and have no intention of leaving the house they raised their children in. The bathroom was original, the bath was becoming difficult to get in and out of, and they wanted to sort it now rather than in an emergency later.

A level-access wet room was the obvious answer, and it is a job that has to be done properly or not at all. The floor was taken back to the joists so the former could be set into the structure rather than raising the floor level. Falls were formed before any tile went down, and the entire wet area was tanked as a system and left to cure.

We photographed every stage before it was covered. Those photographs are in their handover pack.

There is a discreet fold-down seat, grab rails set into blocking behind the board so they are structural rather than screwed into plasterboard, a thermostatic valve, and underfloor heating so the floor is never cold underfoot. None of it looks like a bathroom that has been adapted, which mattered to them.
